It is truly a fabulous day when you receive a phone call from a dear friend stating a World Record Kokanee was caught and that it might have been caught on your gear. I first heard about this World Record Kokanee a 9 pound 10oz. From good friend Rick Arnold of Trophy Trout fish mounts www.trophytroutguide.com. Rick had received a call from Mr. Ron Campbell about an unofficial World Record Kokanee he had caught. He called Rick because Rick often will mount any record fish caught Free. Rick told me about the record and that my name came up and that the fish was caught on my gear. Later that day I received a phone call from Ron himself. He seemed relaxed and calm but I could feel his controlled excitement as he described his experience battling this tremendous fish. He knew that he had a fish of a lifetime but had no idea that this fish was about to change his life. He described the battle right to the end. I listened patiently waiting to hear what he caught it on. Finally I had to ask. What did you catch it on? He replied. Your gear of course. Why do you think I called you? It was caught on your UV Sling Blade and your Pee Wee hoochie. I cannot tell you how excited I was to hear this. It is the dream of every fisherman to catch a Record fish.
Ron accomplished that goal.
It is a dream of every Fishing Tackle Manufacture to hear someone caught a record fish on your gear. However, this was not the first time I’ve heard this. Yes last year was very good to us. First it was the 20# record Brown from Huntington Lake caught by Monte Smith then the Oregon State record 7.08 # Kokanee caught at Wallowa Lake by Jerry Logosz and then a 6 # Test Line Class World Record 5# Kokanee from Flaming Gorge by Fred Hamaski. You can’t ask for a better year than that. I knew I needed to relish such success and I did. I thought to myself nothing could ever Top this year. Well you guessed it. A World Record Kokanee can and did. I do not wish to diminish any of those previous records. They were all Great feats and I appreciate them all. However a world record is as big as it gets. It's like your driver winning the Indy 500 or your golfer winning the Master. Ron Campbell took our products, applied his skills as a fisherman and his knowledge of a fishery and put it all together to skillfully Hook, Fight and Land a World Record Kokanee. Ron Campbell is now one of a few. Infamous. The holder of a World Record all will chase. His name is now legendary. His picture will be seen on the cover of many magazines. His phone will ring off the hook with offers and proposals.
Ron, Congratulations you are the envy of everyone. I am beholden to you. We will forever be partnered by this and I will cherish that relationship. I look forward to fishing with you soon and expect to burn those memories on film so all can see.
Thanks again my friend and enjoy.
Good fishing!
