Shasta is 62 down, the surface is 56 degress. All BOAT LAUNCHES OPEN
Some Nice Rainbows and Brown have been reported Trolling the McCloud Arm from Holiday Harbor to Hirtz Bay. Work the surface down to 75' Best techniques is troll 2 MPH with Kazi Minnows 2' behind 8" Sling Blades. Matrix Paddle-tails. Bend the back of the SB down 1/4" so it swings wide at the slower speed. The Salmon bite in Dry Creek has picked up this week as well. My last trip we landed 10 Kings up to 20" from 50 to 150' deep. The hot set up was the Matrix Paddle-tail and a 8" Sling Blade. Collins Lake with Raith Heryford and Myself
3/18/08 Justin Wolff and myself meet Raith Heryford of RH Guide Service www.rhguideservice.com at 9:30 A.M. At the Collins Lake Store. www.collinslake.com After a quick trip through the Store for supplies we headed out. Raith Guided me to the North end of the lake to an area he had caught fish earlier in the week. There were several boats in the area but not many fish this day. We picked up a few small fish before deciding to go on the Hunt for some warmer water and bigger fish. We powered up my 20' Duckworth Boat and headed for a big shallow cove Northeast of the Boat launch. The temp there was a couple of degrees warmer or 53 . We began trolling just of some willows near shore in about 15' of water. A red gold sand Hum Dinger at 8' a Brass Red Cripplure at 6' and two Orange Flee Bitty's on the surface. I didnt take long before we had a nice 4.5 pounder on. It hit the Hum Dinger and was hooked good. Raith played the fish well and soon we landed it. We didnt have much time to celebrate before hooking another Fish around 3 pouns on a Flee Bitty. This continued for 2 hours with one fish after another. Justin had enough on films and wanted in on the action and started casting Flee Bitty's from the bow. He hooked some nice fish himself. We fished maybe 5 hours hooked close to 20 fish fron 15" up to 4.5 pounds. The show will air sometime in April. www.anglerwest.com

Kokanee Power Trout & Salmon Derby May 07
The derby went well with 250 fisherman and most caught fish as the fishing and weather this year was Great. Good friend and Pro Staffer, Chick Hale whom I have had the pleasure of fishing with several times Won the Derby with a two day total for eight fish of over 22 pounds. He caught a variety of fish and weighed in Browns, Rainbows and King Salmon. Great Job Chick and Marie!!!
Many nice fish were weighed in the largest Brown was over 7 Pounds, the large Rainbow was over 6 pounds and the big Salmon was 5 pounds.
4/28/07
Here we go again. The unstable weather has made the conditions on the lake Trying to say the least. Worked the upper McCloud Arm for Browns. Located good numbers of Fish holding in 30' of water but could not get them to Bite. Returned to the Dam on a fovorable report from Ben Ramondi the day prior. A bite came on at about11:00 AM and we started to catch Rainbows from the surface to 36 feet. In two hour we boated 6 Rainbows to 18". The top producer was the Criplure Glow Firetiger. Also caught fish on Pink Koke-a-nuts behind Super Glow Sling Blades and Matrix Paddle-tails behind the 8" Sling Blade. Also received, this week, a report and Photo of a 6 pound Brown caught on the Pit Arm on the Glow Firetiger Crippliue. We fished deeper water in search of some sizeable Kings but found none and no measurable Kings reported Today from anyone else.

4/26/07 Alan Gilman with a 6 # Brown he caught on the Pit Arm trolling a Cripplure Glow Firetiger "NICE Fish!"
4/11/07
Well It's that time of year when the plankton bloom happens up the Pit Arm so we headed up to there and found a good bloom and some nice Trout action. In about 5 hours we caught three limits of Trout averaging 16" and managed to land to beautiful, healthy Native Pit River Rainbows the first a fat 23" 4 pound Male and an hour later we hit a hugh 26" 6 pound Native. We caught all our fish from the surface to 12' deep. The hot set up was the Copper Orange Sling Blade trailing the Copper Orange Hum Dinger and the Cripplure Brass Orange or Red Prism. Both of the bigger fish came off the surface with the Brass Red Prism Cripplure. We also picked up fish on the Cripplure Glow Fire Tiger and Brass red Hum Dinger.
I will ad the pictures when I get them.
Some Salmon are bitting in Dry Creek the Dam, Digger Bay and Back Bone from 60 to 150 feet deep. Sling Blade Super Glow or Purple Bow with Pink Glow Koke-A-Nuts or Silver Blue Hum Dingers and the Super Glow Shad Cripplure all working. Some Browns bitting on the McCloud Arm Hirz Bay. 1/2 OZ Hum Dingers Brass Red and Matrix Kazi Minnows trolled 3 MPH from the Surface to 60' deep. Slamon are Averaging 18" with some 22" and 4 Pounds possible. The Brown are running 3 to 5 pounds.
Good fishing

4/10/07 Tom Firth with his 6# Native Rainbow caught trolling a Brass Red Cripplure
3/24/07
The Lake is 20' from the top and 58 degrees. I am finally done with the shows and fishing again. I would like to thank all of you that stopped by at the shows this year to say hi.
I was excited to get out today as we left Jones Valley at 7:00 AM. We headed for Hirtz Bay to try for Browns. Did nothing there in two hours so we headed to Bridge Bay. One small rainbow on the surface under the bridge. After an hour there, we headed for Backbone and ran into a guy that had a nice stringer and who was nice enough to let me know how deep he was fishing. 125 to 150 feet deep. We quickly droped to those depths and picked up 5 nice Salmon averaging 18". The hottest bait was the Purple Bow Sling Blade Sling Blade trailing 3' back the Silver Blue White with Red chin Hum Dinger (Captain America). We also hit fish on the new Matrix Paddle Tail in a Shad pattern. I know a lot of you are trying to find this bait as we sold out our first two order at the shows. We expect to have them in stock by the middle of next month. We will put them on the site at that time.
Thanks and good fishing!
Gary

Shasta Lake Trout Derby Results
Well the Shasta Lake Trout Derby ended with a bang. As in Lightning. With a full Derby 225 Fisherman Experience Challenging Weather and Fishing. As often happens this time of year the weather changed and so did the fishing. Just a few days before the Derby the fish were moving onto the Points and feeding well offering great fishing but then things warmed up and then the front came in on this event and slowed the bite. Some found decent numbers of fish fishing shallow on the points near Toupee Island like Pro Staffer Howard Darney who landed 15 trout on the first day and John Howard a long time client and derby participant. John found fish in a variety of locations trolling Cripplures and Hum Dinger over shallow points to take and hold the lead through Sunday winning the Grand Prize of $2500.00. Sambo Lage gave John a run for his money on Sunday moving from 5th palce to second on Sunday to win $1,000.00 and $100 dollars from Walker Downriggers for the Walker Award. Sambo caught his fish trolling points around Slaughterhouse Islands His hot lures was what he calls the "Captain America" Hum Dinger ( Silver Blue White with a red chin). Randy Doyle Took third Casting Shad Schools on Points with Kastmasters. PHOTOS BELOW
