SHASTA FISHING REPORT
 02/01/10

Shasta is 80 feet from the top Centimudi, Bridge Bay, Sugarloaf, and Jones Valley ramps are open. The lake is in the winter phase. Colder water conditions and rapid rising water levels can make the bite difficult this time of year. Fishing for Browns can be good now as the hungry fish return to lake after spawning up river. These browns are often migrating and can be tough to locate. Areas to focus on are the Mccloud and Squaw creek arms. Look for fish on the shallow points or from the surface to 40' for migrating fish. Topline Cripplures or Flee Bitties. Deep lines run 8" Sling Blades trailing Matrix Paddletails, Kazi Minnows. Also try 1/2 oz Hum Dingers.
For Trout Get back behind the boat a good 150 to 200 feet for best results.  UV Cripplures, UV Hum Dinger and Whiggle Hoochies are doing the Job. For those that prefer a fast troll try Kazi Minnows in Shad or Rainbow trout, Flee Bittys or Large Hum Dingers. Trout average 16" with a few hitting the 3 pound range. Salmon bite is slow.

Good fishing!

Great fishing at the tournament

10/15/08. We had 150 fisherman in this week Shasta Lake Trout Derby. The fishing proved to be the best yet with 91% of the entries catching fish. Most fish were caught from the surface to 20' deep. The best bite was the top 10'. Fisherman were using a variety of baits with the Cripplure producing the best. Fisherman reported catching there fish on the Brass Crushed Fire, Glow Fire Tiger, Glow Shad, Nickel Fishscale and the new not yet available UV Cripplures. Fish were caught from the Dam to Watersgulch. Shasta Tackle's Wharehouse Supervisor Dave Stoffel fishing with his father took 3rd coming up from 5th  the first day. Winners Pictures and Derby Results Below

10/08/08 The lake is 152' down water temp. 65 degrees. The lake has turned over. Started fishing around Packers Bay one fish there. Continued fishing around No Name Island picked up 3 fish there, the largest a 19 inch native. Decided to move to Toupee Island. Found a lot of bait and active fish working shad on the surface. Picked up 6 fish there in about 30 Minutes. Great Action. Fished 3 hours caught 10 fish up to 19 inches. The best lures where Cripplures and Hum Dingers in Shad patterns. The Hottest Lures where the New UV Hum Dinger and Cripplures. Not yet available but we will have some at the Seminar at the Bass Hole Friday night. Other good choices the CR and HD in NIckel Silver, Silver Blue or Silver Black. Most fish came from the surface to 15' down. Work the shoreline and look for shad schools with fish on the surface working the bait and you will catch a lot of fish. Fish back 200' 2 MPH.

Hi Gary. I just wanted to thank you for the great seminar you did at Fisherman's Warehouse in Manteca. My fishing buddy and I purchased the lures you suggested and went to New Melones yesterday and had the best fishing trip ever. We virtually limited out on Kokanee and I hooked a Monstor 9# Brown. The only lures we used were Cripplures. This Brown was caught on the Glow Shad Cripplure with the Copper Sling Blades at 80 feet.

Thanks for sharing your expertise

Collins Lake with Raith Heryford and Myself

3/18/08 Justin Wolff and myself meet Raith Heryford of RH Guide Service www.rhguideservice.com at 9:30 A.M. At the Collins Lake Store. www.collinslake.com  After a quick trip through the Store for supplies we headed out. Raith Guided me to the North end of the lake to an area he had caught fish earlier in the week. There were several boats in the area but not many fish this day. We picked up a few small fish before deciding to go on the Hunt for some warmer water and bigger fish. We powered up my 20' Duckworth Boat and headed for a big shallow cove Northeast of the Boat launch. The temp there was a couple of degrees warmer or 53 . We began trolling just of some willows near shore in about 15' of water. A red gold sand Hum Dinger at 8' a Brass Red Cripplure at 6' and two Orange Flee Bitty's on the surface. I didnt take long before we had a nice 4.5 pounder on. It hit the Hum Dinger and was hooked good. Raith played the fish well and soon we landed it. We didnt have much time to celebrate before hooking another Fish around 3 pouns on a Flee Bitty. This continued for 2 hours with one fish after another. Justin had enough on films and wanted in on the action and started casting Flee Bitty's from the bow. He hooked some nice fish himself. We fished maybe 5 hours hooked close to 20 fish fron 15" up to 4.5 pounds. The show will air sometime in April. www.anglerwest.com
